LAST MESSAGE FROM BELGIUM BEFORE NAZI INVASION: Belgian 1 Fr. postal card from A. Bram (escaped from Germany) of Antwerpen, (3-line hstmpd return address at left), pmkd 12.IV.1940, addressed to Rosa Iszajewicz in Tel Aviv, who hosted his daughter who already managed to reach Palestine. "My beloved daughter Gusta, Mazel Tov you have a brand new cousin...hope he will bring a lot of luck & good fortune to our family...Write to us often, do not hurt us with your silence...Hearty congratulations, your father..." The Nazis invaded to Belgium less than a month later, on May 10, 1940 hexagonal Palestine censor hstmp at front, apparently received AFTER Nazi invasion... Light tropical stains at right front
FIRST SURVIVORS' MESSAGE, BELGIUM TO THE USA 1944. Belgian pc sent from Ignace Linkowski in Wendduine, to his brother Dave Linkowski in NY. Both brothers immigrated from Poland to Belgium during the early 1930's, dated 12 Dec 1944, Flemish text has:"Dear Dave & Fanny, my first card to you was not replied.. . Have lived in Antwerpen (Anvers) during the war (apparently undercover).. . Have heard nothing from Poland for about two & a half years...How are you... ". Pmkd 13.Dec.44, circular "278" Belgian (?) & US Censor markings; card was redirected in NY. Low left comer folded, Fine.
MESSAGE FROM BELGIAN JEWS IN FRANCE 1944, French RED CROSS enquiry form, with imprinted TAXE PERCUE at upper left. Dated 28.6.44 from Jean Dauzat, a Christian friend of Graulhet: "...[I] have received news on April 6th. Very sad for the Vromen family...hope the best for them...” This is addressed to Emanuel Jakob De Groot, (Flemish-Belgian Jewish relative) who managed to reach Tel Aviv. Twenty-five word-limited message, mailed 3 weeks after D-DAY. With large dc FRENCH RED CROSS / COMMITTEE FOR GRAULHET violet hstmp, GENEVA International Red Cross transit hstmp in pink-red & linear dater 16 AUGUST 1944 and Palestine hexagon censor hstmp; few drops of light brown liquid on reverse, but F-VF & SCARCE!
MESSAGE FROM DENMARK OCT.1939 - FEB.1940, four Danish Entire Postal cards, first two by surface mail & last two by AIR. Posted from Kopenhagen to Tel Aviv, with interesting messages regarding the family in Poland, contact with the Red Cross in Stockholm, information received from an Aryan Polish dealer located in Budapest, attempts to get ALIYAH certificates, report that few relatives escaped to Lwow (annexed by the USSR), use of Aryan Polish maid who may freely travel in occupied Poland, aid parcels sent and much more. Messages are in Hebrew. All cards with Palestine censor hstmp. Sender's note: "There is no fear here (of a Nazi invasion), Denmark is just like Sweden..." FROM OCCUPIED FRANCE 1.20 Fr from Haberman, Gyon, Rohne, (under VICHY) pmkd 26.May.42 to Mayer Haberman, Haifa Palestine. With long message in German "Glad with your card, hope your wish will be soon fulfilled & we shall be able to celebrate the birthday all together. Thank God, we are well & working, you will be quite surprise but I am working in a shoemaker shop; Mother works at home & Rachel in a lady's confection...Tell me what are you doing. Kisses, Father Hirsh" Also message from the mother "Thank God we have survived the rough winter, hope the good Lord will not forsake us...". The young sister also added a few words in French "Beloved brother & sister, Most happy with your card, must leave space for mother...hug you all...Rachel". British octagonal crown censor hstmp & Palestine hexagonal censor hstmp (Haifa), both at front. Very light vertical centerfold. Fine.
